Jonathan Sutton

Associate Attorney

Jonathan Sutton joined Hobbs Straus as an associate in February 2020. His practice areas include litigation, gaming, and Tribal governance.

Jonathan, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, received his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Irvine School of Law in 2018. During law school, he worked in UCI Law’s Community and Economic Development Clinic, earning the Dean’s Award for excellence in clinical work. Jonathan was also a founding member of UC Irvine’s Native American Law Student Association and an Executive Editor of the UC Irvine Law Review. Since joining the Firm, Jonathan has worked with the Firm’s more senior counsel on several gaming compact and regulatory matters, including sports and internet wagering issues. Additionally, Jonathan has experience working with Tribal governments on fee-to-trust applications, regulatory compliance, real estate transactions, and various business and finance matters.

Mr. Sutton received a Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in News and Editorial Journalism. He served as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily O’Collegian, Oklahoma State’s student newspaper. Before attending law school, Mr. Sutton worked as a breaking news reporter for The Oklahoman, covering crime, courts, and severe weather.
