On August 18, 2026, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced “Voices Not Forgotten,” a new initiative intended to increase public awareness and investigative leads for unresolved homicides, kidnappings, and missing-person cases in Indian Country. The initiative increases rewards for certain cases and provides a new centralized, interactive resource for identifying unresolved cases connected to Tribal communities.
Under a new FBI protocol, publicly advertised cases involving homicides, kidnappings, and missing persons suspected to be victims of homicide in Indian Country where the FBI has jurisdiction carry a minimum reward of up to $25,000. The FBI initially highlighted six significant unsolved cases through the initiative but is also using the program to increase the visibility of other cases nationwide.
As a part of the initiative, the FBI launched a new searchable, interactive map that allows users to locate FBI cases associated with particular reservations and Tribes. The map links users directly to FBI posters seeking information about unresolved Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) cases. Tipsters may provide information anonymously.
The FBI states that “Voices Not Forgotten” was developed in response to requests from Tribal communities and recommendations of the Not Invisible Act Commission to improve the visibility of unresolved cases and make information easier to access. The initiative builds on the FBI’s broader efforts to address the MMIP crisis, including Operation Not Forgotten, which deploys additional investigative, intelligence, and victim-services personnel to assist with unresolved violent crimes in Indian Country.
