Department of Labor Solicits Comments on Draft Tribal Consultation Policy

The Department of Labor (DOL) published in the attached April 18, 2012, FEDERAL REGISTER notice its draft tribal consultation policy. Comments are requested by
June 18, 2012.

The DOL administers many programs affecting Indian tribes, notably those in the Employment and Training Administration. The DOL states that the proposed policy will bring more consistency to its tribal consultations, improve collaboration with tribes, and improve program delivery.

Under the proposal, the Director of the Office of Public Engagement, working in conjunction with other DOL offices, would coordinate the tribal consultation policy. Each DOL operating agency would designate a senior official with primary responsibility for tribal matters.

The DOL will evaluate the comments received by June 18 for possible revisions to the draft policy.
