The White House Council on Native American Affairs has announced updates and upgrades to the Access to Capital Clearinghouse, a centralized, searchable database of federal funding opportunities for Tribal Nations. It was originally launched during the 2023 White House Tribal Nations Summit to deliver on promises made by the recently signed Executive Order 14112, Reforming Federal Funding and Support for Tribal Nations. Although President Trump rescinded this Executive Order on March 14, 2025, the Clearinghouse not only remains operational but has been significantly updated, demonstrating sustained federal support for Tribal funding and programs.
Recent upgrades to the Clearinghouse include the integration of data to streamline the user experience, improve search and filter capabilities, and facilitate easier navigation of hundreds of federal funding opportunities. It now also integrates artificial intelligence for these purposes. This platform is the only federal tool that aggregates Tribal-specific funding programs across fifteen categories, including grants, loans, tax credits, technical assistance, and more. It is the product of interagency collaboration and has been shaped by Tribal leader input. Currently, the Clearinghouse hosts nearly 1,000 active funding opportunities that are filterable by the Tribal entities eligible to apply, such as Tribal Governments and Tribally-Owned Businesses, the type of funding available, such as a grant or loan, and whether the opportunity has a cost-share or not, among other things. It also has several shortcuts for certain key issues such as Native Language Revitalization, Health, Housing, Economic Development, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP).
The continuation and expansion of the Clearinghouse, even after the rescission of the Executive Order that prompted its creation, is a positive and practical development for Tribes.
