Richard J. Frye

Rick Frye, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, joined Hobbs Straus as an associate in September 2020. Rick has experience in the areas of tribal governance, expenditure of federal financial assistance (including COVID relief funding under ARPA and the CARES Act), tribal gaming and negotiation of tribal-state gaming compacts, and employment law matters.

Rick is a 2020 graduate of the UCLA School of Law, where he received his J.D. During law school, Rick was an active member of NALSA. Rick was Co-Editor-in-Chief of UCLA’s Indigenous Peoples’ Journal of Law, Culture and Resistance for its sixth volume, and also served as a Managing Editor for its fifth volume. During his 3L year, Rick was a part-time research assistant at the UCLA Law Library for Prof. Joanna Schwartz.  Rick graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Psychology. Rick gained early exposure to the field of Indian law by working for his father and long-time Indian law attorney, Paul Frye, for one year before law school, one year after graduation from college, and during high school summers.

Outside of the office, Rick enjoys playing golf and finding new music.
